Editing Sample: College Term Paper

(Note the emphasis on rewriting in this student's "voice." A more polished, formal style would have been inappropriate and artificial.)

In this essay you will read about my interpretation of the opposing views on human cloning of Leon Kass and Greg Pence. The Essay that I am writing should help you to better understand the both sides of the cloning issue as stated by Kass and Pence.

Kass first discusses whether or not procreation is going to remain human, or will children be designed in a laboratory setting. He then goes on the explain the whole cloning process, dealing with the unfertilized egg and the nucleus, which is obtained by another animals specialized cell. He goes on about how it is a relatively simple process, considering something is being created. In vitro fertilization is similar in the sense that you can essentially decide on the sex of your child, but not as contrived.

This essay will discuss two conflicting views of human cloning. Author Leon Kass is opposed to cloning in any form, while researcher Greg Pence defends it.
Kass questions the essential humanity of children designed in a laboratory setting. He gives a clear and thorough description of the cloning process, including the basic procedure of obtaining a cell nucleus for insertion into another animal's unfertilized egg. He sees the process as relatively simple, despite the fact that a human life is being created. Kass is opposed to in vitro fertilization as well. He describes it as similar to cloning, but less contrived.
